Trace and Rare Earth Element Partitioning in Organic Fractions of Mudstones during the Oil Formation

In order to investigate trace and rare earth element partitioning in organic fractions of mudstones, this study isolated including insoluble fraction (kerogen), soluble (extract), or expelled hydrocarbon (reservoir solid bitumen), the their corresponding whole rocks for compositions were measured. Analysis lacustrine marine mudstones revealed that mudstone kerogens more enriched elements (REE) redox-sensitive (e.g., U, Mo, Ni) relative rocks. During oil generation, middle (Sm-Ho), especially Eu, migrated from kerogen extract easily than rest REE. The Eu was transferred under acidic reducing environments formed by resulting higher concentrations its neighboring REE (Sm Gd) pronounced positive anomalies. Transition metal V, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) also released elements, V Ni. enrichment mobilization such as Ba, are closely related with geochemical behaviors during depositional early digenetic processes, providing potential information predicting distribution characteristics hydrocarbons crude bitumen) fingerprinting source.
